levels and both fat and carbohydrate metabolism across multiple organs.<a><\/a><a href=\"#fn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> Excess thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism) leads to a hypermetabolic state with weight loss and heat intolerance, while deficiency (hypothyroidism) causes weight gain, fatigue and cold sensitivity.<a><\/a><a href=\"#fn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Growth hormone \u2013 Somatotropin (GH)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Somatotropin, commonly called growth hormone (GH), is secreted in pulses from the anterior pituitary and is crucial for linear growth in children and adolescents.<a><\/a><a href=\"#fn39\"><sup>[39]<\/sup><\/a><a><\/a><a href=\"#fn40\"><sup>[40]<\/sup><\/a> It stimulates the production of insulin\u2011like growth factor\u20111 (IGF\u20111), which promotes bone growth, increases muscle mass and influences lipid and glucose metabolism.<a><\/a><a href=\"#fn45\"><sup>[45]<\/sup><\/a><a><\/a><a href=\"#fn36\"><sup>[36]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Blood sugar regulator \u2013 Insulin<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Insulin is produced by beta cells in the pancreas and is the principal hormone that lowers blood glucose after meals.<a><\/a><a (Vasopressin)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Antidiuretic hormone (ADH), also known as vasopressin, is released from the posterior pituitary in response to increased blood osmolarity or reduced blood volume.<a><\/a><a href=\"#fn49\"><sup>[49]<\/sup><\/a><a><\/a><a href=\"#fn50\"><sup>[50]<\/sup><\/a> It acts on vasopressin V2 receptors in the kidney collecting ducts, increasing aquaporin\u20112 water channels so more water is reabsorbed back into the blood and urine becomes more concentrated.<a><\/a><a href=\"#fn49\"><sup>[49]<\/sup><\/a><a><\/a><a href=\"#fn50\"><sup>[50]<\/sup><\/a> Deficiency or resistance to ADH causes excessive urination and thirst (diabetes insipidus), while inappropriate ADH secretion leads to water retention and Parathyroid hormone (PTH)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parathyroid hormone is secreted by the parathyroid glands in response to even small drops in ionised calcium and is the chief regulator of calcium homeostasis.<a><\/a><a href=\"#fn43\"><sup>[43]<\/sup><\/a><a><\/a><a href=\"#fn44\"><sup>[44]<\/sup><\/a> It increases bone resorption, enhances renal calcium reabsorption and promotes activation of vitamin D, which in turn boosts intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate.<a><\/a><a href=\"#fn43\"><sup>[43]<\/sup><\/a><a><\/a><a href=\"#fn44\"><sup>[44]<\/sup><\/a> Through these coordinated actions on bone, kidney and gut, PTH raises blood calcium, and disorders of PTH secretion lead to serious problems such as hypocalcaemia or hypercalcaemia with neuromuscular
