The Supreme Court of the United States has abolished the constitutional right to an abortion by overturning its ruling in the 50-year-old Roe v. Wade case.

This decision was made on the validity of a 2018 Mississippi state law that outlawed abortions after the first 15 weeks of pregnancy (Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization).

After this Supreme Court decision, about 36 million American women of reproductive age will no longer have the constitutional right to an abortion.

According to the Supreme Court, individual states may now allow or prohibit abortion.
