The Competition Commission of India has fined Google more than 1,337 crore rupees (CCI).

The commission has given Google a deadline in which to change its behaviour.

It has been determined that Google abused its dominant position in global markets.

According to the commission’s order, Google has maintained its dominant position in the online search industry by preventing other search apps from accessing the market.

Under the Mobile Application Distribution Agreement (MADA), Google has made pre-installation of the whole Google Mobile Suite (GMS) mandatory with no provision for removal.

This unjustified requirement on the gadget producers, in CCI’s opinion, violates competition law.

Following concerns from users of Android-based devices in the nation in April 2019, the CCI commissioned a thorough investigation into the situation.

Android is an open-source mobile operating system that is preinstalled on smartphones and tablets by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

In two contracts, the Mobile Application Distribution Agreement (MADA) and the Anti Fragmentation Agreement (AFA), between Google and the OEMs, Google was charged with participating in unethical commercial activities.
